San Francisco Neighborhood Block Party

San Francisco Neighborhood Block Party

Yesterday I went to our first potluck block party. It was organized by my good friends Ken and Claire. I had a great time meeting all our neighbors in the 700 block of Ulloa Street in San Francisco's West Portal neighborhood.

Neighborhood Block Party

This is just one more thing that makes living in West Portal so wonderful. Now I know most of my neighbors and can say HI to them on the street. It also adds to a feeling of safety in knowing who belongs here!

The Pew Research Center says that 28% of Americans don't know their neighbors by name. But I tend to think in large cities it is far greater than that.

There is another move to get neighbors together. It's called Nextdoor.com. It's kind of like Facebook meets Craigslist meets Yelp. And West Portal has an entry there. It's a great place to find and share information and meet other neighbors too. If your neighborhood doesn't have one, set one up!
