My Life as a San Francisco Realtor: Mission Bay condo Appt Could have gone very very bad

Mission Bay condo Appt Could have gone very very bad

Friday I made an appt for my clients / friends from Shanghai to see a condo / townhouse in San Francisco's Mission Bay. I called in early afternoon, and the Realtor was good enough to set one for 5pm.

My clients and i started out in West Portal because they really liked the access to shopping and light rail. But I really wanted them to see South Beach / Mission Bay - there's shopping, walk to grocery stores, 20 minutes walk to Union Square, plus the water / bay views they were after.

My clients don't drive, so they wanted to take SF's MUNI (light rail) downtown for the experience. (Not always a good idea!) So I got my first Clipper card, and off we went. We were a little late because we saw a home on Ulloa Street they really liked, so that took longer than expected. As we were finally on our way on the train I knew we were going to be late - I tried to stay calm as the train stalled numerous times in the subway.....

255 BerryAt the last subway stop (Embarcadero Station) I called the other agent at 5pm and told her we were on our way in the next train down the Embarcadero and should be there soon - left a voicemail. We finally got to the last stop on King Street, past the AT&T ballpark and near Caltrain station, and quickly walked to the appointment. At this point we were lucky to arrive at 5:30pm, a half hour late. We walked up to the door, and I saw a smiling face greet us inside. She greeted us with a smile, and joked that we shouldn't have taken MUNI. She was eloquent in showing us the building and the townhouse we wanted to see.

My clients have a tendancy to talk a lot and get off subject, but that is natural for someone from out of country. For awhile we talked about the area, and then Shanghai and a few other areas that are known to be paradise on earth. It was a lot of fun. The other agent basically sold them on the South Beach / Mission Bay neighborhood, which I knew in my heart they would totally fall in love with. I owe her for that one.

The point is, this appointment could have gone totally south - because we were so late and took up a lot of her time - at least an hour and a half! But it didn't, and we parted with the other agent as friends would. It is just so wonderful to be able to have a professional and courteous meeting with another Realtor.

And today I'm on a roll. I called and made 4 more appts for Monday afternoon in the same area. All the Realtors were accomodating and pleasant. Is this an alternate universe or better yet a sign of more professionalism? I vote for the last and that it will continue! And believe me, we WILL be on time this time....

I'm going with more professionalism too John..............in the grand scheme of things, an hour and a half of her time could put some "big" money in her pocket, it was the right thing to do.  Glad to hear about your other four appointments and those agents too.

Thanks Roger. It was a busy day, and ended on the 50th floor with a water and city view in SF. I definitely feel a high rise post coming on!
