This weekend, Sunday, June 26, 2011 is the 41st Annual Gay Pride parade in San Francisco. So I guess that means the first parade took place about the year I graduated from High School back in Northern Wisconsin. Actually it's not just the gay parade, it is the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender parade. There are over 200 entries in the parade itself. And there is a whole weekend of events. The expected turnout for this year's parade is 1.2 million people. I mean, can you even begin to grasp that thought? Last year's attendance was estimated to be 1 million. The sheer numbers involved boggle the mind.
I moved to San Francisco from Chicago in 1987. I was aware and had hopes of what San Francisco had in store for me. It took me about 6 months to feel settled in, and then one day it just magically dawned on me. The diverse population of San Francisco is incredible once you get to experience it. The local news media were touting it as "The Best Place on Earth!" All these years later, I can't disagree.
Our Values and Mission statement reads: "The diversity of our market area is a challenge we meet with pride and responsiveness. We encourage and promote association with multilingual and multisexual sales associates so that we are just as diverse as the neighborhoods we serve."
Congratulations San Francisco! I couldn't possibly be Prouder!!! For all the Events, please check out the Event web site San Francisco Pride. You can watch the parade LIVE on SFPrideLive.com. And KOFY TV20-Cable 13 will broadcast the parade at 7PM. Don't worry, Donna Sachet WILL be there! They were the first TV Station to broadcast the parade live years ago. They are to be commended for their vision and strength!
