My Life as a San Francisco Realtor: West Portal Village - Lowest Crime Rate in San Francisco

West Portal Village - Lowest Crime Rate in San Francisco

San Francisco District MapWest Portal is part of the Taraval Police District 4, the largest district in San Francisco. There are 10 districts in all. The Taraval District extends from Golden Gate Park south to the City / County line, and from the West of Twin Peaks on the east to the Pacific Ocean. It's the tan area on the map to the right, in the lower left.

The Taraval District has the lowest Part 1 crime rate - this includes homocide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, auto theft, arson and other theft - at a rate of 18.21 per 1000 residents.

The Taraval District is mostly residential, containing many schools, SF State University and the San Francisco Zoo, along with a number of neighborhood commercial corridors. Neighborhoods include the Sunset, Parkside, Golden Gate Heights, Balboa Terrace, Ingleside Terrace, Monterey Heights, St. Francis Wood, Forest Hill, West Portal and a few more.

The Taraval District holds monthly community meetings and publishes a weekly newsletter. Captain Curtis Lum is a great guy - you can read a local Westside Observer interview with him HERE.
